ContentsFree windows security software virginmedia on demand catalogue FeedsSites I like to keep an eye on Free Windows security softwareAVG anti-virus and other free software from Grisoft I've been putting AVG on machines 'pro bono' for a few years now. I'm not aware its let any viruses through. Key advantage: simplicity. I've had to do surgery on a couple of machines to get busted copies of McAfee and Norton removed. They'd been completely bastardised by some infection or another. Th21Jun2007 - Just ripped Norton Internet off a Vista machine and replaced it in part with AVG, no trouble. Zonealarm firewall (from Checkpoint Software Browse into 'home and home/office' and then select 'Zone Alarm' from the list of products. That's the one with the free download. It'll try to persuade you to take a 15 day free trial of Zone Alarm Pro on a number of occasions; watch out for that! Works very well once you've trained it for your key applications. It doesn't handle regularly updated software very well; so Firefox and Thunderbird tend to keep getting untrusted. But they ask to be upgraded, so its really just a user training issue! You can't share an internet connetion with the free version. Sa20May2007 - not yet Vista ready. Consensus on line seems to be 'use Vista's until Zonealarm is ready.' Got to be better than Norton!
